Message: Deliberate confusion.

Below, is the map I remember seeing a long time ago....and I finally found it in the link below.

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/industry-news/energy-and-resources/cliffs-to-exit-ontarios-ring-of-fire-with-sale-of-chromite-assets/article23576822/

When you open this map you will clearly see the winter road that Martens Fall is talking about(scroll to end of article to see it.  You can see it intersects the proposed north south road only.

===========================================================

 Cliffs helped to improve this winter road in 2013 by making it wider, safer and straighter.

http://www.sudburyminingsolutions.com/cliffs-funds-improved-ice-road-to-marten-falls.html

The whole idea of partnering with Marten Falls was to improve access to the community by building a road that would be safer, straighter and wider,” said Aagenes. “Last winter was the first time that a transport truck was able to drive into the community. There were a number of large loads of building supplies, food and diesel fuel that were brought in.

===========================================================

you can see this 3 page pdf which shows you the environmental approval that was done back then for this work

https://dr6j45jk9xcmk.cloudfront.net/documents/2882/stdprod-108868.pdf

"Made under clause 12(6) of the FAR NORTH ACT, 2010 – The construction of a winter road from the Marten Falls Reserve 65 south to the Ogoki Forest Painter Lake Road

==========================================================

Then on MAY 3, 2018 with NO news release that I ever remember seeing...this was put on the MOE website.

https://www.ontario.ca/page/marten-falls-community-access-road-project#section-1

Project summary

Marten Falls First Nation plans to build, operate and maintain an all-weather multi-use road from the northern end of Painter Lake forestry road to the community of Marten Falls in northern Ontario. They have agreed to follow an environmental assessment process for this project. This assessment will look at how the road and any associated infrastructure could impact the environment."

I can better explain this now that I found the map in the first link. Go look at it again and picture the north end of painters lake to the Marten Falls reserve. This EA is for where the winter road intersects the north south to the marten Falls reserve.

=========================================================================

But then it got very strange. You have the above community access road on the MOE website May 3, 2018...and then....Marten Falls puts out this NR 28 days later....

https://www.ontario.ca/page/marten-falls-community-access-road-project#section-1

When this NR came out...

THUNDER BAY, ONMay 31, 2018 /CNW/ - Marten Falls First Nation and Ontario announced the Province's support to plan and construct a community access road to Marten Falls from existing provincial highway around Aroland/Nakina on August 21, 2017. As a next step towards that process, Marten Falls First Nation has now entered into a voluntary agreement with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) Ontario to conduct an Environmental Assessment (EA) on a community access road from Marten Falls First Nation going south to existing provincial highways."

So, this NR 28 days later ...is referring to the pink highlighted route from August 21, 2017 ..not the EA applied for by marten Falls  which is seen may 3 , 2018 on the MOE website.

=======================================================

So then what happened?

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/thunder-bay/marten-falls-webequie-ring-of-fire-1.4687794

Marten Falls, Webequie deny 'closed door' approach in all-weather road agreements

Neskantaga and Eabametoong say they aren't being consulted over proposed Ring of Fire projects

However, the two communities point to environmental assessment agreements signed May 3 between the province and the communities of Marten Falls and Webequie — which were also signatories to the 2014 agreement — as evidence the agreed-upon process isn't being adhered to.

Proposed access roads

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) said those agreements pertain to two all-weather access roads Marten Falls and Webequie intend to build.

Marten Falls plans to build a road from the community to the north end of the Painter Lake forestry road, north of Nakina.

Webequie First Nation's proposed road, meanwhile, would connect the community to the Ring of Fire area.

===========================================================================

what I am trying to point out is that some heavy duty confusion was created thanks to media.

the anger by our two favorite complaining reserves does not correspond to the North south route  or the east west route. There have been YEARS of proven consultations so there can be no accusations for this..and non are being made if you re-read the aritcle again.

The accusations are based on these two NEW proposals. One from webequie and one from marten falls. But when you check the MOE website you clearly see that both will have the full blown EA with terms of reference and consultation etc.. similar then was ALREADY done for the north south and east west route...by NORONT

=====================================================================

IT was this NR almost one month ago that got folks upset (like Dutchman).

https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/marten-falls-first-nation-enters-voluntary-agreement-for-community-access-road-ea-and-thanks-liberal-government-for-support-684194761.html

But, here is the kicker. If the process was to start all over again...why is the May 3 (marten falls-painters road EA) still on the website and this different one is ...not on the MOE website.

The reason is ....the EA has already been done by Noront for the North south road. The protest is not about the routes submitted in the Noront EA.

I believe deliberate confusion was created.
