Message: Re: Sault claims political edge in bid for Noront plant

Ringer,

I noticed the Algoma extension the other day and was surprised to read that Noront's concerns surrounding the CCAA were ..resolved...because they don't appear to be.

“I am ecstatic that because of all of my team’s efforts, we were able to resolve Noront’s concerns surrounding CCAA and compete in this bidding process. Our government and our community is fully committed to making this happen. This is a top priority,” he said.

Notice what Timmins indicated:

Meanwhile, Timmins Mayor Steve Black believes his community has all the key ingredients Noront is seeking for the ferrochrome plant’s location that includes a site, advantages with capital costs and the permitting side. Its property, however, is not located near any water transportation body.

But, Timmins has rail...and the water transport as far as the Sault is concerned in regards to the Port is still not resolved from what I see below.

Further Restructuring Extension for Algoma

by john.murtha on July 20, 2018, 07:07am. EDT

Algoma’s restructuring deadline has been pushed back once again.
The local steelmaker which first entered into creditor protection in November of 2015 has received court approval for a further extension to the end of September—-that’s an extension from the end of July.
The issue of the Port of Algoma and its dispute with the local steelmaker has gone to mediation.
Sessions took place back in May and the latest report from court monitor Ernst and Young indicates that mediation has been adjourned and may be resumed at the discretion of the monitor.
Meantime Algoma has ceased pursuing an alternative port in accordance with a court order which established the mediation process.
In 2014, Algoma sold its commercial port to Essar Steel subsidiary The Port of Algoma.
