People trying to get into the campus of Laurentian University in Sudbury had some difficulties Thursday morning as a protest slowed traffic down.

For several minutes, about 15 people sang and danced at the entrance to Laurentian University as police watched.

The protest was staged by people opposed to the exploration and development of the Ring of Fire mineral deposit in northwestern Ontario.

Bruce McComber organized the protest.

"The reason why we think this is an appropriate place is because Laurentian University is right here, Sudbury is a hub of media and culture and other things in northern Ontario." said McComber.

Some other protesters had this to say to CTV News:

"I'm against processes that cause land destruction, and that occur without consultation with Indigenous people."

"We want our children and our grandchildren to have clean drinking water, a beautiful world to live in, we need to stand up and use our voice."

Some of the protesters expanded the demonstration waving signs at passing cars for much of the morning.
