Message: Into the ring with ford....

I find it odd that when Eabatemoong and Neskantaga speak out about their mistreatment, and the perils of developing the Ring of Fire that none of the other Matawa communities seem to exist; me, me, me attitude.  It doesn't take a genius to see that they want what Webequie and Marten Falls have with the Government of Ontario, which is a separate deal within a deal.  But, again, both Eabametoong and Neskantaga want the old Regional Framework Agreement scraped, for it states that by virtue of proximity to the Ring of Fire both Webequie and Marten Falls will become the lead communities, and therefore should expect a great share of the profits ....This being said it is understandable why there is jealousy within Matawa, and why this leaves some of these communities located 100+ km away from the Ring envious of those closer to it.

But what I don't understand is why only these two communities (Eabametoong and Neskantaga) are complaining, and why the others have decided not to join in with their "MeToo" movement;?.

....Within the Ring of Fire only Webequie and Marten Falls share a unique relationship with Ontario. The Government of Ontario entered into a Memorandum of Cooperation with Webequie and a Memorandum of Understanding with Marten Falls related to mineral exploration and development activities.

Both of these agreements are recognized in the Matawa Chiefs Framework agreement with Ontario as being a priority with Ontario. Interim Chief Bruce Achneepineskum of Marten Falls First Nation reiterated the importance of recognizing the MOC and MOU with Ontario. “Our traditional area is wholly within the Ring of Fire. We have a responsibility to the land and our Nation to ensure that all exploration activities that take place have our approval”.

Both Webequie and Marten Falls agree that the Protocol Agreement is a positive step forward to responsible development within their respective traditional areas....
