AISC Seeks Committee Members for New Structural Stainless Steel Standard

September 19, 2018

(Chicago, IL) - AISC is assembling a new committee to develop and approve a new standard on the design, fabrication, erection and quality of structural stainless steel (excluding cold-formed stainless steel). We are seeking members of the industry who produce or fabricate structural stainless steel, consulting engineers who design structures using this material, and others who have related interest in the material, such as education, inspection, etc.

The initial developmental effort will begin in early 2019 and will run through 2020,  and the committee is expected to meet approximately two times per year.

Interested parties should submit a summary of their applicable professional experience to Cynthia J. Duncan, AISC’s director of engineering, at duncan@aisc.org by October 5, 2018.

notice the new guide back in 2013...Notice that Outokumpu was involved in the aisc design...along with the chromium association.

Sponsoring Stainless The preparation of AISC Design Guide 27 was sponsored by the following entities:

➤ Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA) ➤ Stainless Structurals, LLC ➤ International Molybdenum Association (IMOA) ➤ Nickel Institute ➤ Outokumpu

Stalatube ➤ International Chromium Development Association (ICDA) ➤ International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) ➤ Steel Institute of New York (SINY)

I can tell you from experience that when it is a GOVT project..and the GOVT wants certain standards in

the specification (and actually means it), if you don`t meet the standard, your bid will be disqualified.

No stainless that does not meet this standard will be acceptable for these projects.

I expect the new revamping of the stainless steel aisc standard will be favorable to ..some.
