Message: Smelter Announcement?

ttps://northernontario.ctvnews.ca/announcement-expected-on-noront-smelter-1.4411440

Major news expected for Sault Ste. Marie Tuesday.

CTV News has learned that the City of Sault Ste. Marie is holding a news conference at 11 am and that Al Coutts from Noront Resources will attend.

Sources tell CTV News that the announcement is good news for the city regarding its smelter bid.

Sault Ste. Marie is one of two cities that have made the shortlist for Noront Resource's new ferrochrome smelter, part of the Ring of Fire development.

Timmins is the other city that is being considered.

Back in February, Coutts said that the major sticking point that was holding the project up was the road access and provincial cooperation.

The $1 billion smelter will provide hundreds of jobs in the construction phase, and an additional 450 permanent jobs after it's built.

CTV Northern Ontairo's Jairus Patterson will be at the event and will be sharing the information as it happens.
