I had lived in Welland for a short period as a kid, and the history of Atlas Steel in the below link that came out in June of this year was a good summary

While the old 42 Centre St. plant is inaccessible to the public, the original stainless-steel administrative building, perhaps the best preserved structure on the site, still stands across the street as a reminder of the legacy Atlas left for the people of Welland

The Welland plant sale closed today and the buyer is Valbruna Canada Ltd., a subsidiary of Acciaierie Valbruna S.p.A., of Vicenza, Italy. (link below)

Why did this Italian company want this steel company based in Welland Ontario?
They have a manufacturing facility in Fort Wayne, IN, USA
called:
Valbruna Stainless Steel | Production of Stainless Steel
www.valbruna-stainless-steel.com
and they have a distribution warehouse in Milton Ontario (8724 Holgate Crescent)
Why decide to make stainless in Welland Ontario?
