Funny you should mention Cliffs, cupcake....
I recently visited the POSCO website and found this quite interesting, as well as their dealing with FMG. When I looked at the illustration showing the Hydrogen-Based Steelmaking (HyREX) process it dawned on me....Gee...There are some aspects to this that are now appearing in the whole Ring of Fire saga....If you look at the illustration you'll see DRI (Direct Reduction Iron), an EAF (Electric Arc Furnance), and H2 (Hydrogen). When applied to our scenario here in Ontario I see Cliffs supplying the DRI, Algoma facilitating the new EAFs, and Forrest's FFI (Fortescue Future Industries) subsidiary in Canada supplying the green hydrogen eventually.....Noront...Well...At some point they will supply the nickel and the chrome if everything goes as planned with a possible "NEW NORONT". A name I cannot see changing.
But I agree...The old names of the past, like Cliffs, are destined to revisit us once again, because I don't believe they ever really left. When they aquired AK Steel and ArcelorMittal USA I knew they were coming back to Canada for the chrome to make stainless steel, and with there move into DRI years ago it doesn't take much to put two and two together. I said to myself, "This will be needed along with FFI's green hydrogen to make green steel at Algoma, and later to make green stainless at Noront's FPF (Ferrochrome Processing Facility)"....So...Is this the big green gig coming to Canada? Maybe..... But like everything it takes time to orchestrate such a transition, and then there is all the profiting from controlling each aspect of the process. Everyone waiting their turn, and allocating their investments wisely to participate and capitalize before everything is put into motion to bring this whole "Green Canada" venture together... The Algoma and Cliffs connection is quite obvious, but it will be Forrest's "New Noront" and his Canadian arm of FFI that will make it all green so that the general public, environmentatlists and First Nations cannot complain.

.... POSCO has begun to proceed with measures to implement this vision. Last year, POSCO decided to cooperate with Australian iron ore company FMG in the green hydrogen business using renewable energy, and starting this year, POSCO decided to sign a business agreement with a leading domestic research institute for the promotion of research cooperation in the hydrogen field to secure hydrogen business capabilities in earnest.....POSCO has graciously illustrated the Hydrogen-Based Steel Making Process below....
