Message: Happy New Year to all.

Hello to all longs and newbies.

It's been awhile since I posted. So much has happened. For the most apart I've enjoyed most of the posts. The ones with personal viewpoints that then get negative responses, not so much. Someone else mentioned that those would be better served on some other forum. I agree. Just the facts please.

JL. Your wish to fire AC. Granted. Good riddance I say. Useless. Wyloo. Welcome aboard. I wish you all the success and perhaps some good luck in finally getting this world class resource started. $1.10. No thanks. Many more multiples. I'm in for the ride.

FN. Every time I read some good news for the project this of course is followed quickly by more negative form certain groups. I know JT has apologized. One thing he does do a lot of. Others too have apologized. How can anyone move forward if they are always looking back? Just asking.

Attawapiskat. Does anyone remover theses headlines?

Documents show plenty of money flowing through Chief Theresa Spence's reserve Attawapiskat Chief Theresa Spence's household made as much as $250,000 in the fiscal year ending March 2011. Financial audits show that while Spence was paid $71,377 as current chief, her partner, Clayton Kennedy, was also employed as the reserve's co-manager. Kennedy's consulting company, Moo Shum Enterprises Inc, charges $850 per day - working out to $221,000 per year. With other band executives making more than $100,000 per year and a new ice re-surfacing machine bought during a housing crisis, some are wondering why the ongoing Idle No More campaign isn't calling for better financial oversight. Documents from 2008 show that while Spence was listed as the deputy chief under the name "Theresa Spence/Linklater" someone named "Theresa Linklater" also billed $25,660 for managing a daycare for three months. Financial statements also show millions of dollars of stock are held by the reserve in companies such as Apple, Disney and Shoppers Drug Mart.

How about this?

As chief of Attawapiskat, Spence oversaw a $31.2 million annual operating budget.[5][6] According to the most recent census, Attawapiskat has 1,549 people living on reserve.[5]

The Attawapiskat reserve has been the subject of several state of emergency announcements by Spence in recent years, due to the reserve's poor housing conditions. The announcements have received national media coverage. On October 28, 2011, Spence called a state of emergency for the third time in three years. On December 30, 2012, a spokesperson for the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs stated that by the end of 2012-13, the federal government will have spent $131 million on the Attawapiskat reserve since 2006, including the construction of 60 new and renovated houses and a new school.[7]

Controversy has grown around the question of how the money received from the federal government is spent or allocated by the reserve's own government. Financial records have never been made public to reserve residents or to the media; some residents of the reserve refused to discuss the matter with media, saying that they feared repercussions.[8] The De Beers company, which owns a diamond mine nearby and employs around 60 residents of the reserve full-time, has donated trailers for housing to the reserve in the past. The Attawapiskat reserve's government receives a payment from De Beers, but Spence has declined to say how much or how it is spent.[8]

More?

From Fort Albany Cree Nation, where Attawapiskat member Mike Koostachin lives, a return ticket costs $400. He can’t really afford to spend that money, but Koostachin said he’ll be making the trek to cast his ballot in person.

“Transparency in Attawapiskat is at zero per cent,” he said. “In my opinion, incompetent people are running our government system, and the same people are running for council again.”

Then there was of course a hunger strike.

There are hunger strikes and there are hunger strikes. To me, a hunger strike is when you drink water and you don’t actually — you know — eat. The whole point of the strike is to horrify people when they see you wasting away and slowly dying before their anguish-stricken eyes. In other words: What Chief Spence seems to be on is more like a detox “diet” than a fast.

Yes, I know that the CBC has done breathless stories quoting doctors who tell us that this brave woman could collapse at any minute. But the curious thing about those stories: The doctors haven’t actually examined Ms. Spence. They seem more like political cheerleaders with medical-school degrees. All of which to say: If Chief Spence actually intends to starve herself to death, she is going about it the wrong way.

Fish broth is a very low-calorie food, but it is highly nutritious, and I daresay a great deal healthier than the Chief’s regular regime, which I am going to assume from her appearance includes a lot of carbohydrates.

I am not actually encouraging Chief Spence to go on a real starvation regime. I am only saying that at this rate, it is going to take her a very long time to get the job done — if that is indeed what she wants.

Well I will stop here. Hope that doesn't get me in trouble. Just cutting and pasting. I'm sure if I was an IT expert there would be so much more out on the web regarding this particular FN and all the past and current issues.
Can't we all just get along. The world wants to go green. For a good reason. Canada has what the works wants. It's time to lead instead of following.

Happy New Years to all. Let's hope this is our time/year.

Be safe. Be healthy.
