Dony,
I do not hunt much anymore, but my father is an avid, and I mean avid hunter (as is much of my family), and he has large collection firearms for every kind of animal in every kind of condition. He and I have spoken about this and he agrees that handguns are a huge problem and should go. For my father, a gun nut, to say that is an indicator nof how serious the problem is becoming in many areas of our country.
In an ideal world, geologists, tappers, prospectors and the like would be able to own and cary handguns for obvious reasons - bears are the enemy for northerners - but the problem is becoming so big that it requires significant measure before we end-up becoming like the USA.
I now live in downton Toronto, a 5 minute walk form NOT's office in fact, and innocent people are getting shot everyhwere in this city, including minutes from my house. If it was just gangster wannbe drug dealers popping each off with no consequences to the general public, I would say let them have at it.
Unfortunately, however, innocent people are being caught in the crossfire, and killed, as kids in gangs and drugs engage in gun battles on busy streets and in crowded parking lots in broad daylight, in crowded subways, and in cars on the highways. One women was actually shot in the arm recently as she travelled on the Gardener Expressway as two groups of punks shot at each other in speeding cars with no regard for the safety of anyone - complete and utter stupidity. The bullet passed through the trunk from the rear and through both the rear and front seats before hitting her in the arm and causing deep bruising. She could easily have been killed.
Anyway, I take no offense to your arguments, concerns or comments (or anyone else here for that matter - I intorduced the topic and I knew what I was getting myself into), and I also hold you in high regard, but we need to rethink our views in light of the future propsects for our large cities if no major action is taken. This problem will not go away on its own...
Thank you for your consideration and your PM.
Regards,
B.
