Rick Van Nieuwenhuyse, M.Sc.
President and Chief Executive Officer

Rick Van Nieuwenhuyse, M.Sc., is President and Chief Executive Officer of NovaGold Resources Inc. Since assuming management of NovaGold in 1998, Rick has assembled a portfolio of world-class properties and a team of top industry professionals who have turned NovaGold into one of North America's fastest growing mining companies, poised to become a mid-tier gold, silver and copper producer. Rick's vision and ability to follow through can be attributed to his 30 years of worldwide experience in the natural resource sector, including time as Vice President of Exploration at Placer Dome. He brings years of working experience and knowledge of Alaska, Western Canada, Africa and Asia, and has managed projects from grassroots discovery through to advanced Feasibility Studies and production. Rick holds a Candidature degree in Science from the Universite de Louvain in Belgium, and an M.Sc. in Geology from the University of Arizona.

R.J. (Don) MacDonald, CA
Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

Don joined the Company in January 2003, bringing with him 25 years of experience in mine development and financing. Prior to joining the Company, Don was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Forbes Medi-Tech Inc., a public biotech company, from 2001 to 2003, De Beers Canada Mining (formerly Winspear Diamonds) from 1999 to 2001, and Dayton Mining from 1991 to 1999, and Vice-President Finance of Granges Inc. from 1983 to 1991. During his career, Don has been involved in the operation or development of ten mines in North and South America, and the completion of multiple mine financings and mergers and acquisitions transactions totaling over $2 billion. Don is a chartered accountant and has Bachelors and Masters degrees in Engineering from Oxford University.

Sacha Iley, B.A.
Vice President, Human Resources

Sacha joined NovaGold as Human Resources Manager in May 2006, and was promoted to Vice President in June 2007. Her Human Resources background is well suited to NovaGold, with a unique combination of experience in a head office environment and also managing construction, start-up and operational aspects of Human Resources at a mine site. Prior to joining NovaGold, Sacha worked for Placer Dome for over 7 years. Her most recent assignment was with Placer Dome Canada as the Human Resources Superintendent at Musselwhite Mine, located north of Thunder Bay, Ontario. In addition, Sacha's construction and start-up experiences have taken her to such culturally diverse locations as South Deep Mine in South Africa, North Mara Mine in Tanzania and Henty Mine in Tasmania. Sacha holds a Bachelors Degree from the University of British Columbia.

Greg S. Johnson, B.Sc.
Vice President, Strategic Development

Greg joined Rick Van Nieuwenhuyse to establish NovaGold in 1998. With over 20 years of industry experience, Greg is responsible for NovaGold's marketing and communication activities, and is involved in developing strategic growth opportunities. Prior to his role at NovaGold, Greg was part of the management team responsible for overseeing the exploration and acquisition activities for Placer Dome's International Exploration Group in Africa and Eurasia. Greg also worked with Rick Van Nieuwenhuyse and Joe Piekenbrock as part of the Alaska Exploration Group for Placer Dome in the late 1980s and early 1990s, where he played a key role in the multi-million-ounce Donlin Creek discovery in 1995. Greg has been involved in all aspects of exploration and development, from grassroots discoveries to Feasibility Studies in the United States, Canada, Australia, Russia and Africa. Greg holds an Honors B.Sc. in Geology from W. Washington University.

Doug Nicholson, B.Sc.
Vice President, NovaGold Alaska / General Manager, Alaska Gold Co. / President, Donlin Creek LLC

Doug brings over 18 years of mine development and operation experience to NovaGold. Prior to joining the Company, Doug was in charge of mine development engineering at the Kinross Gold 400,000 ounce per year open-pit Fort Knox and True North deposits in Fairbanks, Alaska. Prior to his work at the Fort Knox and True North gold deposits, Doug was Chief Mine Engineer for Cambior at the Valdez Creek Mine in Alaska. Doug has a B.Sc. in Mine Engineering from the University of Alaska - Fairbanks.

Joe Piekenbrock, M.Sc.
Vice President, Exploration

Joe joined NovaGold in 2002 with over 25 years experience in the minerals exploration and development sector. He has managed exploration projects from grassroots discovery through advanced acquisitions. Prior to joining NovaGold, Joe worked extensively in South America, and he brings a wealth of northern experience through years of exploration for both Teck Cominco and Placer Dome in Alaska. Joe holds a B.A. in Geology from the University of Colorado and an M.Sc. in Geology from the University of Arizona.

Elaine Sanders, CA, CPA
Vice President, Finance & Corporate Secretary

Elaine joined NovaGold in 2003 and has 15 years of experience in audit, finance and accounting with public and private companies. She has been involved with numerous financings and acquisitions, and has listed companies on both the TSX and AMEX. Elaine is responsible for all aspects of financial services, financial reporting and corporate governance. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and is a chartered accountant

Tony Giardini

Mr. Giardini is Chief Financial Officer of Ivanhoe Mines Ltd., an international mining company listed on the TSX and the NYSE, with operations focused in Central Asia and the Asia Pacific region. Prior to joining Ivanhoe, Mr. Giardini spent more than 10 years with Placer Dome Inc. as Vice-President and Treasurer, responsible for managing and overseeing the company’s debt and capital market activities, including managing banking relationships with US, Canadian and international banks. During his time at Placer Dome, Mr. Giardini led the financing team that raised in excess of US$1 billion in debt and equity financings. Mr. Giardini is a CA and CPA and spent 12 years with accounting firm KPMG prior to joining Placer Dome.

Gerald McConnell

Mr. McConnell has been a Director of NovaGold since 1984. Mr. McConnell is also the Chairman, President and CEO of Etruscan Resources Inc., of which he has also been a Director since June 1990. Mr. McConnell was called to the Bar in the Province of Nova Scotia in 1971 and became a partner in the law firm of Patterson Palmer Hunt Murphy, Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia, in 1978.

Kalidas Madhavpeddi

Mr. Madhavpeddi brings over 25 years of experience in business development, corporate strategy, global mergers and acquisitions, marketing, trading and sales to NovaGold’s Board of Directors. After over 25 years with Phelps Dodge, at that time the world’s largest publicly traded copper company, Mr. Madhavpeddi now works as President, Azteca Consulting LLC, an investment and advisory company to the mining industry. Mr. Madhavpeddi has held various executive positions at Phelps Dodge including Senior Vice President, Business Development, President, Phelps Dodge Wire and Cable Co., and Senior Vice President, Phelps Dodge Sales Company.

Clynton Nauman

Mr. Nauman was appointed a Director of NovaGold in 1999. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Alexco Resource Corp. and Asset Liability Management Group ULC, and was formerly President of Viceroy Gold Corporation and Viceroy Minerals Corporation. Previously, Mr. Nauman was the General Manager of Kennecott Minerals from 1993 to 1998. Mr. Nauman has more than 25 years of diversified experience in the mining industry ranging from exploration and business development to operations and business management in the precious metals, base metals and coal sectors.

James Philip

Mr. Philip is President of Clan Chatton Finance Ltd., a private investment holding company. He has been a Director of NovaGold since 2003. Mr. Philip joined Morgan & Company in May 1980 and became a partner in June 1981 and managing partner in August 1993, until 2005. Mr. Philip has over 25 years of accounting experience, servicing mainly companies listed on Canadian and United States stock exchanges. His clients include a significant number of public companies in the mining resource sector. The services Mr. Philip provides include assisting clients with the financial aspects of continuous disclosure reporting requirements in Canada and the United States.
