I'd be really careful about placing too much stock in "rate-my-professor"... attracts a lot of moaners and complainers and usually negatively distorts the person's actual abilities.
His annual evaluations by his faculty and peers would be much better indicators of his prowess. It's also the place where his teaching workload vs his research workload could be verified.
Given his involvement in the basic research and UConn's investment in POET, in a variety of ways, it is likely that he is on reduced teaching load (only if he chooses, usually) and he has more research responsibilities - likely his full time job.
In the typical university community, Taylor would be a rock-star researcher/academic ....especially with the commercialization of his intellectual property.
I'd rather see him at his workbench than teaching - perhaps with a little time off to do the talk-show tour to promote POET Technologies!!
