I know very well this feeling some of the Epixfab people (http://www.epixfab.eu/) will have now in their stomach. You work for years on specific projects, and suddenly - out of the blue - you read a paper about someone else you never heard about, presenting a paper, and making years of your work of life obsolete.
So they - as well as many other researchers on silicon photonics, will have to make up their mind.

Well, let us know as soon as you will receive feedback from them! OK?
Usually, in academic circles, people are a little jealous but not for long. They will try to absorb and use new ideas.
