Much chagrin and consternation over the past few days (and months) as to "why doesnt the world know about POET?". I do share your angst, but also strongly believe its all under control. For someone from a marketing background, this (lull, NDA's, milestone announcements, complexities) is all completely understandable.

Lets see if this old marketing lady can shed some light on the question for you.

First, this is a fully valid question, concern and might I add, emotion. For many of us who have played the markets in past or for many years, one our first exposures to the stock game and in particular, the news disclosure component is/was the oft used moniker "Buy on Rumour, Sell on News".

But lets go back to the beginning, or a crash course on the basis of how the general news business works. Not trying to be infantile here or treat the reader as they are unintelligent, I just want to try and illustrate the situation. The media is a complex web at best. The white noise can be deafening, and h0ow to get your one minute marker, is a lesson in persistence in most cases.

The generic or general news dispersal or reporting system comes to us in a few levels.

LOCAL-In most countries and areas this would be villages, towns, small and large cities and can be even as large a coverage area as the whole state, or county or province.

NATIONAL-Self explanatory, within national boundaries.

INTERNATIONAL-Again, self explanatory, extraneous to our own borders, and global in scope.

Add to these distributions or dispersal routes the modern social media methods, News can break on an international scale and cover the globe in minutes, usually dependent on severity, subject matter and veracity.

On a national front, stories and pertinent issues come available within the bounds of national issue subject matter and sometimes relatable to international issues in the same subject and with the same or similar populace effects.

On the local level, crime, politics, human interest stories like a cat stuck in a tree, are much of the content. However, rarely do these stories make news outside of the local area. One proviso though and particular to our afforementioned modern age of social media. The larger news distribution entities, like CNN, CNBC, FOX, CBS/ABC/NBC, BBC/CBC etc etc are starting to pick up on these human interest cat in the tree stories as they go viral online first. Skipping the formal old style chain of days even weeks of climbing from your neighbours back yard to national status. 5 minutes of fame if you will.

News story distribution, air time or space allotment (very limited in time blocks) , level of importance all vary from network to network, newspaper to newspaper, again dependenton severity, veracity, relatability etc. Shes all about ratings people, whatever the chief editor and publisher want or whatever the producer wants, gets to air. Suffice to say that agendas come into play here as well and what may the most important to a viewer or readership, may not be what actually comes to the masses.

So what does this all have to do with PTK ? .....and why does it seem no one knows about us ?

Are you still with me ? Not asleep yet ? Sorry for the long winded explanation.

The news system in the business world shares some same or similar operational, hierarchical methods as does the mainstream news business. With a couple if large differences. One being subject matter, usually dry and unappealing to the average human, the other being distribution channels. The large media conglomerates all have subscription to Scripps Howard, Bloomberg, Market Wire and many more, etc etc. Yet due to the limited amount of air time, print space or web page space available, stories are chosen for their relatability to the general viewer or populace and its relation to current domestic stories. An example being a prominent politician, involved in a government finance role being found to have shares in a bank or finance company that are not in escrow. This would tie in the politico, the compan(ies) involved, and any other related party. So the story would borrow from National news, Business news and quite possibly a local level......etc etc.

Now we get to the answer......

So what drives news exposure and therefore distribution ? It can be distilled down to these factors......Relativity, importance and veracity to issues of the day, relateability of the issue to the populace.....etc.

So then in review of the last year or so of news releases. Questions arise when assessing the distribution of those releases. They are:

-In all of them, what would be voracious enough content to vault any or all of them into the mainstream and keep it there ? Only one from what I can see had any recognition power, and that was from the appointment of Mr. Manocha. Tracing of that one release revealed an industry wide distribution and to much lesser extent into the mainstream news cycle. So what happened to it ? aka Why no major response to Mr. Manochas arrival ? Quite simply, outside of the industry, "Who the heck is Ajit Manocha?".

-In all of them the company name is mentioned and in some internal technological developments are mentioned. If you are an average citizen, an investor, an accredited investor, a fund manager even.......do you understand these technical topics ? Anyone (and many companies probably do) can make technical claim to have the next great widget, few understand the 5W's (what, where, when, why, who) about that announcement. Even if you did, one glance at a years chart, fundamentals, technicals, background on the semiconductor industry as well, would that make you leap in to buy ? Would you consider your personal economics and maybe even local or national economics before you jumped it ? Are you a cowboy investor and the type to plunge in anyway ?

-In a few of the releases the connotation of a disruptive technology is is used. Next time your with friends or relatives, at the grocery store etc, ask someone what a disruptive technology is, ask them what powers their cell phone, tablet, or their local power plant. Do they understand what "system on chip" is ? Do they understand how electron flow works ? Do they understand Moores law ? Do they or will they understand what a POET product can do for them ? An emphatic NO to all of these........ so then logically why would the general populace get excited at a milestone announcement ? You get the picture.

So our answer is, why NO ONE knows about POET. Is that no one really knows as yet what the 5 W's are and the answers therein......YES ?

THE answer is then you need a connection first, to spur the general populace into doing enough subcutaneous digging into the 5W's of POET. An emotional connection, a material connection, a psychological connection. Most of us our so busy day to day that we only care that our tech product functions as advertised and don't care whats in it.

So then how is it possible to get the mainstream involved ?

Quite simply an annoucement along the vein of a an equity stake, a JV, a partnership with a recognized brand name, Google, Apple, Global Foundries, AMD, Synopsys, IBM, Fairchild etcetera. Any one of these, strikes a substantial cord with a potential investor, which builds volume and price. At the close of the day, mainstream media picks up the "named" news and distributes it accordingly. Mentioning the folume, price, and the "name". Same for the business news cycle, and even in examples of fabulous exposure there occurs cross pollination of the business feeds and the general news feeds and then on to international news feeds.

So someone in Toronto, or New York or Jakarta, or Bonn or London, then first sees Google for example, then decides to turn the volume up or read the release and then find the reason for Googles involvement and very much closely reads of the product and its capabilities. Multiply this event a few thousand times and sprinkle in social media and you have your global exposure start position.

PEACE OF MIND

Theres no doubt the executive team knows whats its got in hand. Aside from any issues along the rest of the way and there will be as technology always likes to give us in the business the right turn conundrum, "I" fully expect the company to lead with some body blows, and then work their way to the NASDAQ knockout punch. Through relationships with named players, industry heavyweights, and on to near and far future revenue generation (the demand will escalate continuously over years), they have not only a technological leviathon on their/our hands, but a cash generation machine, a marketers dream, and eventually......a brand awareness second to none....and an entry into the everyday global vocabulary.
