Just to add to this IBM NR..
The industry is clearly headed in our direction. We had the Intel announcement and now IBM. I'm going to stress a few points that seem to be easily forgotten, excuse my repetition.
...
We have companies who are making or will make III-V gates & transistors. That is only a small part of the POET story.
Even with these developments, IBM & Intel can't do chips that have:
-Optical board-to-board communication
-Optical clock distribution
-Universal Memory
-VCSEL integration
-Analog, Digital & mixed signal integration
-Take the full advantage of a total III-V materials' electron mobility
-Scalable monolithic solution
-Optical Thyristor
-Quantum dots
-Monolithic fully integrated design
-Lower CAPEX
...
That's why I'm not worried about IBM, Intel, carbon nanotubes, diamonds, silicon or whatever flavour of the day.
They don't have a holistic solution to a holistic problem. See: monolithic.
