Hi Barney,

In deed sometimes it would be nice to split this board further in a DD and a SP part.

I guess the topic you are proposing here is very complex. And it is for all of us highly interesting. NRE can start at any time (or did already start), but here it is about the licansing fees.

Are we still 5 years away from the POET entering the market?

My short reply: No! It will most probably be much faster.

1. POET bears so many quite different applications, different verticals, and each of them will need different time to market. And it seems there are low hanging fruits (fast) as well as complex applications where further (basic) developement is needed (like quantum computing). On the military side we are possibly already in the market? In the field of secret weapon tech possibly noone can or will tell us.

2. Some experts of this board collected info about time to market e.g. for a CPU. But:

a.: This could be just valid for existing Silicon technology.

b.: Critical will be at which state of the developement POET is at the moment? Noone here really knows exactly.

c.: It depends which node size we need for the relevant product. Just PET or is also the optical side needed?

d.: How much time did Synopsys spent so far on their developement of tools?

e.: We know that lab-to-fab is in progress, possdibly finished. The involvement of Applied Materials could indicate that further work on the hardware side is needed, e.g. special sputtering tools or for testing equipment (I guess so far noone needed to test e.g. the transport of data inside the chip by LASER

So what is next?...
