We've got all the usual suspects in the Semi world - all of them, with their 10's of billions of R&D - maybe hundreds of billions combined - tens of thousands of PhD's & Post-Docs in academic, U.S. federal & private labs, all working on the Next Big Thing. Europe - although late to the party- has woken up & smelled the coffee (Google "optoelectronic AND iii-v AND careers" & see the how many European hits you get)

And then there's the Chinese...

Throw away the marketing BS & none of these entities are going anywhere anytime soon...
