You're quite right Quan Gork 'recently' is a show stopper for the 3rd party foundry to be Wavetec.

The question who is or was the 3rd Party then?

We don't really know, but what I think is not in question, and my key point, is that PET and Synopsys at that time were fast approaching an advanced stage of development in the Lab to Fab process. Then again in the News Report of 10 February 2015:

The Company completed its “3rd Party Foundry” 40/100-nm transfer milestone consisting of completing the critical layers of the Transistor Fabrication Process. This flow process will allow the Company to generate more complex prototypes and test structures. As the POET process node size shrinks, this facilitates new industry innovations and furthers development work. This new epitaxial flow process includes new innovations in the POET prototype fabrication process. These innovations were necessary to continue the optimization work of the 100 and 40-nm foundation devices of our technology.

Dan DeSimone, Chief Technical Officer noted: “This is a significant step for our “lab-to-fab” transition where this new flow at our “3rd Party Foundry” accelerates and adds repeatability and quality to our manufacturing process necessary for our next two significant milestones expected at the end of Q1: a 100-nm ring oscillator and a 50 GHz VCSEL.”

What is easily established from the language used in news releases is that milestones and direction was driven by customer needs at this point. Here we start to think about Tony Blevins involvement (I have forgotten the date he was first mentioned in a Quarterly Report I think) the curious dissappearance of Lee Shepherd and the deadly silence that was then imposed presumably by the strictures imposed by those in the Orchard. But by early May, Optical and VCSEL had clearly the company's new focus. As we see soon after this as the engagement statement new Operations Officer Subhash Deshmuk in 27th April 15 implies:

“I see tremendous potential with POET Technology’s innovative approach to combining Si based IC’s with III-V materials based optical components on the same chip that could revolutionize the mobility, telecommunications/networking, large data management, and other technology sectors. I am very excited to be part of the team to drive this innovation into the market

Pet had been the principle devlopement objective since the commercialisation decision in early 2014 certainly until SD's April appointment. So why did all the news of PET development stop after Feb 15? My belief is that Apple was the customer and at some point in early 2015 they transacted the 40 engineer deal that PC had been working for. PET development was thereafter in Apple hands, possibly to gain exclusive access to PET for new product. Of course this would allow PTI to focus on the development of Optoelectronics. That must be now at a relatively advanced stage.

All will be revealed in due course

I think I shall go back to standby mode until we know.
