Ha, this escaped me! Good you discovered this and pointed it out! I was going to e-mail IR, but now I think it isn't worth the effort.
This is R&D in its early stages. They can lase, okay. But do they have waveguides they could connect to? Do they have detectors? Do they have OE/EO conversion? Are they able to lase vertically in in-plane (horizontally). I don't think so.
But as we can see, competition never sleeps and POET's window of opportunity will not remain open forever. However, according to Suresh, it will be open for several years, not just months.
