Jammingthepipeline: Sometimes I wonder if management has a clue about the market.

Sometimes I wonder why management should care about the market. I for one want management to execute, execute, execute. If it cared about the market, it couldn't focus on execution. And it is execution that creates value, value, value. Nothing else does, except for fake value.

If management cared about the market (aka the share price), they would lean to make short-term decisions, decisions that might support the share price, but turn out to be bad or suboptimal on the long term. And who would want that, except for day traders?

Okay, agreed, management should care about the market, because one day it might have to go to it for a capital raise. What would a prospective investor (unlike a trader) prefer? A company with a proven track record of business successes? Or a company that tries to make traders happy? I know which kind of company I'd prefer!
