Message: Strategy Progress Review

Share price and dilution frustration and general investor fatigue can push investor focus towards the day-to-day developments, losing track of the strategic progress that plays out over time. IMO, these guys are telling us what their strategy is, and they are executing - yes, managing some pretty big twists and turns (GaAs platform delay) along the way, but generally staying on track to becoming an industry player starting in 2018 and sustaining.

From the “Commercialization Strategy” slide 26 of the Dec 2017 presentation:

“Engage with a commercial partner to accelerate the introduction of dielectric optical engine to the datacom transceiver market” - Accelink (check)

“Continue to leverage and invest in Singapore-based DenseLight manufacturing facility to effectively manage all aspects of production for optical engine and sensing products” - (eg.) September 2017 laser and sensor products, and continuing evidence of active recruiting and hiring at Changi Street (check)

“Employ integration and packaging know-how across an expanded sensing product line” - (eg.) January 2018 NR re PIN Photodiode detector with integrated spot-size converters compatible with the Optical Interposer Platform (check)

“Pursue complementary ecosystem alliances and/or acquisition opportunities” - Unknown at this point but likely that talks are underway, as the company profile rises and more players become aware of complementary opportunities, helped by our BoD members’ industry connections.

This is an excerpt from disco68’s March 8 post (PIC's are here to stay - Michael Lebby) on the off topic forum - it was a summary article about the upcoming PIC conference in April where Bill Ring is speaking, and is nominated for some awards:

“At the conference we will hear the latest performance updates and strategies for a number of exciting PIC technological platforms including the incumbent InP, new entrant silicon photonics, and even newer entrants of dielectric photonics and polymer photonics.”

Michael Lebby continues to contribute to awareness of our dielectric tech (along with his own company’s polymer photonics tech) by specifically mentioning it in various industry presentations and articles. I think the word is continuing to spread, and Accelink is just the first of many partners

“Secure strategic partner to complete development of breakthrough monolithic devices - first ever combination of a laser, detector and electronic circuit on a single GaAs chip” - nothing on the India SCL front to date, so not sure of status, or likelihood of a deal.  However, we do have evidence that they have been engaged in this in the past. Perhaps timeframe is dependent on external factors, or perhaps they have moved on to negotiations with other prospective partner(s).
