I feel that POET can do it with GaAs platform, but they are a small company and can't get bogged down by doing a little in too many areas of the industry. It will probably be better in the long run that they chose the path they are currently on now by maximizing their effort in the InP platform. There are many more discrete devices that POET can participate in now that will translate into robust sales.
POET is actually in a very tangible phase now and not just in the lab as they were with GaAs. If someone with money and resources wants in on furthering the development of GaAs, then it may happen when the time is right. POET can play the GaAs card in the future when the time is right with someone and it depends at what is brought to the table.
