Yes that was the first thing that came to mind but as I recall Taylor’s VCSEL made wavelength adjustments through the use of quantum dots created by stressing the lattice structure to varying degrees of mismatch to adjust the size of the quantum dot islands produced to generate the required wavelength.

Suresh’s invention appears to be creating multiple wavelengths through the use of rare earth metal particles deposited through ion injection.  And re Shash’s response we should spend some time to look at the epi sheets to see how this VCSEL compares to Taylor’s thyristor.

I should not really comment any further until I have spent some time to take a closer look.
