Not sure you can compare a biotech stock to POET.  Most of them start out with an idea, but then require hundreds of millions to get it to market.  Their aim is usually to get bought out by the big guys.  

Not sure that is the case with POET.  They can organically grow and proliferate the market.  Biotech have one shot at it and it's very risky and costly.  Hence need for deep pockets.
