T.I., the answer is simple really. If you have billions of dollars invested in engineering, manufacturing, upstream and downstream supply chains all of silicon, you are going to have to be dragged, kicking and screaming, away from your comfort zone.

Think of all the BOD's, shareholders, banks and others institutions that you will have to somehow explain to, how some little no name, no budget, start up named POET, was able to achieve what you could not, after spending 100s of millions of their money in a failed attempt.

These companies would rather crush, discredit, or bury the Optical Interposer than have to admit such a colossal cluster f... on their part
