Singapore Hybrid-Integrated Next-Generation µ-Electronics Centre
A diverse team of researchers from various departments of NUS, including SHINE, the ECE Department, the Centre for Quantum Technologies, the Integrative Science and Engineering Programme, and the Graduate School, along with the School of Electronics and Information from Sun Yat-Sen University of China, and POET Technology, demonstrated an innovative back-end-of-line (BEOL) compatible electro-optic modulator and memory (EOMM) in paper presented during the December 2023 IEEE IEDM conference.
The pioneering technology is based on a Lithium Niobate on Insulator (LNOI) micro-ring resonator (MRR) integrated with Ferroelectric Hafnium Zirconate (Hf0.5Zr0.5O) non-volatile analog memory, marking a significant advancement in the field.
Kudos to the team, comprising Zefeng Xu, Chun-Kuei Chen, Hong-Lin Lin, Yuan Gao, Wei Ke, Baochang Xu, Pavel Dmitriev, Carlan Arbiz, Evgeny Zamburg, Steven Touzard, Xinlun Cai, James Lee, Suresh Venkatesan, Aaron Danner, and Aaron Voon-Yew Thean.
What was once deemed impossible, the team managed to rewrite the rules of the game through sheer belief and determination.
