FWIW I think the buyout idea is the least likely, downright nonsensical line of reasoning.

POET can partner, JV, use foundries, and license to achieve scale, so the rationale for a buyout is not there. 

It does not have a track record of massive production and market penetration, so the buyout would be stupidly low. There is no financial distress anymore, so no reason to entertain a low offer. 

Now, if a trillion dollar company viewed POETs tech as the road to dominance, an irrational offer might occur. How about three times the all time high? Not crazy, but unlikely. The trillion dollar company can just buy what they need, or license it, so no need to justify a high profile, super rich offer. 

ASML has not been bought out. There are lots of examples of companies that have essential tech, and are not buyout targets.
