POET was very late to the party with EML lasers and really did not have the funding to branch out in those efforts. But once they began working with EML's they were very quick to catch up and surpass what others were doing. That is a reality of the flexibility and adaptability to integrate different material sets and diferent devices into the POET platform.

POET is continuing to innovate because the platform makes it relatively easy. Someone revealed recently that POET is designing their own laser. It is going to be really interesting to see where they go with this. 

The connectivity options that have been developed into the POET platform will continue to grow.

One possibility: Hybrid external-cavity lasers (ECL) using photonic wire bonds as coupling elements. I am probably speaking out of turn but Suresh has always got something up his sleeve!
