I wouldn't jump to that conclusion. It is likely, but not possible to make an apples-apples comparison yet.
Today's Ligentec/Vanguard news is 'total' insertion loss which would include multiple facets plus the waveguide propogation loss plus any material absorption loss, but that's generally a negligible number. Only a technical paper on this would show the breakdown of what is contributing to the total insertion loss.
I've been dying to read a new technical paper from POET to see all these data points.
At these figures, the losses are getting low enough in general and fall under budgeted amounts.
It really just comes down to who can produce this in volume at low cost and so far POET seems ahead there.
