While I tend to agree with your sentiment Tau (I think management for most companies is way over paid), it's also true that the only way to attract the best management is to offer competitive compensation.
No matter how much our management team believes in the Kodiak story, they are ultimately here for the same reason as we investors - the bottom line. If we don't compensate them for their skill and experience, they will quickly take those talents to another company.
Stock options, at least, give them an incentive to work for all investors, since we all want the share price to rise.
