KG, thank you for the additional information. I lived one summer in Longlac, and did quite a bit of fishing in the Geralton/Arrowland area, but my mind is foggy about what is where after all these years.
My reference to Malartic was the very rich resource that has been proved up there. Moving an entire town made economic sense in that situation. I don't believe the residents were all too upset either - got a brand new town, beautifully laid out, with new EVERYTHING. I don't imagine PG has such a rich resource, but then again, they wouldn't have to move as many people.
And, since this is a Kodiak discussion, what I am REALLY most glad about is that none of our properties (so far) will require moving a town, or even a house. It saves a LOT of headache, as well as money. Trees - they can be planted again once the mining is done. Even Sudbury has turned green.
