For what it is worth, I bought APV (solar) and POE (oil and gas) for mine, and both have done well. The conventional wisdom, I think, is to have your interest bearing investments in tax sheltered havens like TFSA or RRSP's, though my "cash and equivilant portion of my long term savings is small. I chose to go with co's that I thought had very good growth potential and that might be cashed in, at least partially, within a yr or two, as to save on cap gains. I decided not to buy KXL as it is in the specualtive category, and the other 2 have earnings. Have considered a good dividend yielder for next yrs contribution, even though dividends are tax preferred. May go with another small cap or even add to the 2 I have.
Wish the limit was higher and could start them for kids!
Cheers!
