Cedar, not so fast; remember the north pole is floating ice moving constantly. Fritjof Nansen with his crew on 'Fram' floated across the north over a 2 year period hoping to float directly over the north pole(missed by a long shot). Gan could be right or very wrong, depending on where he started, direction he took, speed and how many ripples. The ice of course drifts from Russia towards Canada/ Alask border, and the speed you can get by looking into the archives of Fritjof Nansen
The main problem is that he more likely would see some turists playing golf than see any polar bear.
