Dear IIIIState

We are familiar with Solena Group, the owners of SGH,2 and have been following them for the last 20 years. Over the years, we have seen several companies attempting to enter the waste market with plasma technologies, with limited success and some highly publicized failures.

Having worked in this field for almost 30 years now, we can say that producing hydrogen (or any synthetic fuel for that matter) from garbage is a significant technical challenge.  Although garbage can sometimes be considered a fuel, it is a very poor one (with a heating value less than one third that of coal, for example) and a highly contaminated one.  Removing this contamination is no small feat, requiring numerous unit operations that all must work in sync.  Waste gasification plants therefore often suffer from a low plant availability, negatively affecting the economic viability of the operations.

For these technical and economic reasons, PyroGenesis has decided to focus its energies on lower hanging fruit (i.e.. projects that offer significant value to its customers and shareholders). As a result, we have several successful product lines: Drosrite, plasma torches, and plasma atomized powders.

That being said, we are continuing to work in the waste management field, with the PAWDS technology being used by the US Navy at the forefront.  Regarding the waste-to-energy and waste-to-products field, we continue to entertain valuable opportunities as they are presented to us, focusing on niche markets that offer a significantly advantageous business case, while minimizing technology risk.

Hope that helps,

Peter
