Message: 5N Plus = competitor?

Dear Moi,

Hi again !!

We are familiar with both Metalpine and 5N Plus.

Metalpine does have a material offering that is comparable to PyroGenesis, however their manufacturing method is different. Metalpine manufactures their powders using a Gas Atomization Process. This process is very well known to PyroGenesis. In fact, even our European partner Aubert & Duval has the capability of producing Gas Atomized Ti64 powder.

Metalpine competes directly with companies like Carpenter, Sandvik, Höganäs, and other suppliers of Gas Atomized powders. Gas Atomized powders can produce quality powders, and they have their place in the Additive Manufacturing (AM) market. That being said, it needs to be pointed out that for Ti64, Gas Atomization does not produce a high yield of powder in the 15µm to 45µm size range, the largest sector of the AM powder space known as laser bed fusion or melting. Furthermore, Gas Atomized Ti64 is not perfectly spherical and has internal porosity.

Our Plasma Atomized Ti64 powder is extremely well suited to cater to the laser bed market, which makes up almost 90% of the AM market. With that said, we were not satisfied with just catering to the laser bed market with our legacy Plasma Atomization system. With our plasma expertise we wanted to make obsolete our legacy Plasma Atomization system. As such, we developed NexGen. NexGen allows us to produce Plasma Atomized Ti64 powder with higher yields over traditional Plasma Atomization systems and at significantly higher production rates.

As such, to date, we consider our biggest competitor is ourselves. We keep pushing ourselves to obsolete our old technology and stay ahead of the AM powder manufacturing technology curve.

...and oh…regarding the milk cartoons: save your hard earned $$$.  Milk cartoons probably wouldn’t help find me….Porto/wine/whisky bottles? Now that’s a completely different story  ;-)

Hope that helps,

Peter
