Message: Q&A: Electric Arc Furnace uses natural gas burners. Could they be replaced by PYR torches?

Hi Peter,

Algoma received last week 420M$ from federal government to transform its plant into an Electric Arc Furnace.

P. 13 of this Algoma presentation shows the EAF that they intend to put in place by 2024:

Q4F 2021 Investor Presentation (algoma.com)

In this short video (U.S. Steel's Electric Arc Furnace - YouTube) of US Steel in Alabama on the Electric Arc Furnace, at the 2:00 mark, we hear the plant manager mention that there are 8 natural gas burners.

Algoma coming up with similar concept by 2024, could it be possible, in the design of the 2024 solution, to think of replacing such natural gas burners by plasma torches?  Would that be technical possible or is this something that is not technically possible?

Thanks for your leadership and great work.
