That 250,000 petition, does that represent the 8+ million Queberers? They did that petition again, and only half signed it. Things like that he said doesn't affect him, becuase anybody in power gets that...bottom line is if the PQ were in power, they'd be going ahead with shale gas...and the liberals would be their bashing them with environmental arguments...this is politics.
If they were serious about a full moratorium, they would have done it. And killed any chance of wealth for a long time. This is a smoke screen...it gives both parties what they want. Jason said they are still expecting regulatory regime and regulations this fall at the latest.
What's in the report is nothing different anyway. The only thing that someone has to make clear is the fracing. You can't study anything if you don't frac. If the industry says bite me, well then what study will you have? It looks ridiculous. And don't expect industry to drop $15M a well for a study sake on a location they want. They have to come to terms on that...we'll frac here because it's a good spot that the company picked to learn more about the play and maximize results...and you can study all you want...without having the government pay the costs of the wells...which I doubt would happen.
As far as the municipalities go, you'd know more than me so I completely agree with you. Frankly though, to the industry it might be a pain in the but, but with full production they'd over look it. Or it will cause them to just go to ones like St. Ed who gave huge support, and they'll start drilling just their and around for the year...those people will be the ones to take advantage of jobs and local businesses making money. You can bet that others won't be so strict if they initially are if they want that business to come.
The power lies with the industry just as much as the municipalities. In business, you work together to make things go smoothly and benefit both parties, that's how it works.
