Message: Age, MoCA and CKD

A lot of overlap between the aged (70 or older), cognitively impaired (MoCA<26) and CKD (eGFR<60) populations.

The median age for all 2425 BETonMACE patients is 62 years with a median eGFR of 99. MoCA only done on those 70 and older, so no total population MoCA score.

The cognition subgroup is significantly older and has significantly lower eGFR compared to the total population. The median age for the 469 patients in the cognition subgroup (all those 70 and older) is 73 with a median eGFR of 70 and mean baseline MoCA score of 24.4. 223 of the 469 had a baseline MoCA of above 25 (mean 27.7) and a median eGFR of 71. 246 of the 469 had a baseline MoCA of 25 or below (mean 21.4)) and median eGFR of 70. 97 of the 246 had a baseline MoCA of below 22 and a median eGFR of 65.

The CKD subgroup is significantly older than the non-CKD subgroup and is enriched in cognitively impaired patients. The median age for the 262 patients in the CKD subgroup (baseline eGFR<60) is 71 years with a median eGFR of 49. The median age for the 2163 patients in the non-CKD group is 61 with a median eGFR of 104. 147 of these 262 (56.1%) CKD patients were 70 years or older and in the cognition substudy, and 80 out of 147 (54.4%) of these CKD/cognition overlap had baseline MoCA <26. 322 of these 2163 (14.9%) non-CKD patients were 70 years or older and in the cognition substudy, and 166 out of 322 (51.6%) of these non-CKD/cognition overlap had baseline MoCA<26. Lower MoCA score at baselkine is associated with higher prevalance of CKD (see this poster). About 1/3 (80 of 246) of the cognitively impaired (MocA<26) have CKD (eGFR<60).
