Can someone give me a (brief) summary of what we are still waiting to be revealed from BoM?
I am suprised there has not yet been any reference to changes (or absence of them) in GFR. What might this might mean? One possibility is that there was no effect, and the data were omitted from the AHA for convenience. Another is that it was affected and the change had such a strong correlation with cognitive function and perhaps ALP that the company and investigators thought the two/three should be presented as a single package in San Diego. But this is guesswork.
We also need to know more about the low GFR group. I think I have touched on this before. It is of interest to know how well the placebo/low GFR and apabetalone/low GFR groups were matched for factors that are known to affect CVD (like age, HDL cholesterol, blood pressure...).
The reason for the question is trying to make a realistic guess about what happens after Dec. 5th.
If positive cognitive data are presented in San Diego, it will be hugely important. It does not follow from what we already know about the trial that it was "underpowered" for this aspect. It depends on a lot of things. Although cardiovascular function is one of the factors that affect cognitive function in the long-term, apabetalone might have direct effects on the expression of relevant genes in the central nervous system (and there is reason to believe that it might do so).
If this is correct, the two real question marks that could produce a sizeable short term (next 30-60 days) SP increase would be unexpectedly good news from the FDA, or a surprise BP buyout. Does this sound correct?
Others on the board are much better qualified than me to answer this question. But I am sure the scientists and statisticians in BP will be poring over the data, much more data than was presented at the AHA meeting. They will draw their own conclusions independently of the interpretations and opinions already expressed by others. It will take them time, but I am personally optimistic about the outcome.
