"In a letter to Marten Falls Chief Eli Moonias, KWG spokesman Frank Smeenk expressed his “regrets” for a blunder apparently made by a contractor while conducting soil sampling.
“I want to apologize to you and your community for the violation you feel has occurred at an archeological burial ground that was unwittingly disturbed,” Smeenk said.
Though the letter expressed regret, it did not say KWG was responsible for the incident."
Frank Smeenk is a lawyer. Most lawyers do make and repeat this kind of mistake. A lawyer is programmed to win battles. Not wars. Frank coolly applied a win/lose formula, dodging about the human receiver. "I 'm sorry for your silly perception of the facts, but we acted in our rights, and your hurted feelings are irrelevant. Behave please, you're not alone in this Country" The other party's hurt has now incresed tenfold! Retaliation is sure coming. Who's the winner then? The client wins the batlle. The lawyer wins its case. Period. Period? Not so sure, hurted feelings ignitiate the will for the next battle. "We are right and will prove it, up to the Supreme Court if needed!
A better answer would have been:
“I learned that an ancestral burrial have been trampled, and I truly understand the frustration of your people about the incident. While the intrusion was apparently unwitted, I will personnally make sure that this could not happened anymore. I would ask to help me in informing us as soon as possible of the location of your burial sites so that....etc... "
