Try to stay focused at least on one area of the market. I used to be all over the place, oil, drillers service, mines, trucks, trailers, tech. Too much to keep up with. Cramer thinks it's a good idea to spread out. Personally I disagree. I focus almost exclusively on small cap miners/explorers now. Study all I can about same.
Technical Analysis for dummies not a bad overview if you are planning on being in the small mine/explore area. TA may not really apply to this area, but it doesn't hurt to have a simple grasp of the terms and theories.
Find a friend with geology background. Pick their brain, supply booze, bug them til they smite you with a rock hammer.
