As part of my learning process in tghe oil and gas industry, I have just embarked on learning the drilling sector, but I started thinking what does it take to be successful in that area. Granted you need to know how to run a business like any other, but it seems to me that anyone can buy the rigs and deploy them by signing contract, and viola you got a drilling company. Any one can do that. You get paid even if the well you are drilling turns dry. If you are an oil company you need good engineers,geolgists to run a successful oil and gas companies.
This brings me back to TID, the founder Mr, Dawson is proved successfull bussiness man in the drilling sector,but what is the competetive advantage of the drilling sector, yes there is demand in SA for rigs,what prevents people with money just buying rigs and deploying them there by floading the market, thus making drilling a commedity? What special talent is unique to a drilling company that will prevent entry by a competion?
