Hi Believe;
I made an error in my last blog. The drill chief is in charge of the operations on an offshore drilling rig and the "driller" is the person who controls the drill bits progress through the rock and turns the drill bit horizontally until it strike a natural gas or oil pool. I was just watching a program on Mega Structures that I have on offshore oil rigs. Fronteers of Construction is another T.V.series that appeared on Discovery TV which had an individual episode on offshore drilling and how an offshore drilling rig works. As luck would have it, the final episode of License To Drill was on Discovery TV today. I watched it again and it had a Nabors rig drilling for natural gas in Northern Alberta, and an MGA rig drilling in the North West Territories for natural gas in the episode. The Nabors rig in this episode was a platform rig with a walking system just like the 2 new rigs that Tuscany is having built. I was able to see how the walking rig moves hydraulically from one well location to another mechanically without having to tear down the rig and take it apart and move it fromone well location to the next which is very labour intensive. So there are plenty of TV sources available to learn about how drilling rigs work by watching them in action.
Cheers; Scott
