Sorry, folks looks like I misunderstood what Webb was saying about the Con and Giant Mines and was politely corrected by a poster on Stockhouse.com.
"Baires doesn't know that the Con Mine was completely underground and the Giant Mine only saw limited open pitting near the end of its 68 year life when Marg Witte took the mine over and squeezed everything it had out.
The reason that there were never more than 2M oz resources was simple: the mines were over a mile deep and ore occurred in relatively short shoots that would have made any extensive drilling prohibitive. And oh yes, and considering that ALL the mines were producing on average a TOTAL of 200,000 oz per year, if there were 2M oz resources that was sufficient for 10 years! Remember, the Yellowknife gold mines started operation in the 1930's and operated continuously for over 65 years."
