In answer to your two questions:
- Will Tyhee be able to open a mine on a site that the government just finished cleaning up. Yes.
- Would this be the responsibility of Tyhee to clean up and dispose of any contaminated land. Yes.
Now, to clarify. The Discovery Mine site has been studied for many years, and subject to Contaminated Sites Office clean up since 1995. You can follow this on the MVLWB site. Tyhee has supported this and hosts CSO crews in our camp, and has provided aggregates from our mining operations for their use. We have land use permits to occupy our camp, use and maintain the airstrip, and conducted our exploration and development programs. We’ve obtained research permits to install water meters, meteorological stations, fish nets and traps. We have water licenses to discharge waste into the environment, primarily from our mine as well as from our bioreactor at the camp. We have submitted a Project Description Report (PDR) to the MVLWB in July, 2008, to put the mine into production http://www.mvlwb.ca/mv/Lists/MV%20File%20List/DispForm.aspx?ID=3830&Source=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Emvlwb%2Eca%2Fmv%2Fdefault%2Easpx
It was referred to Environmental Assessment in August, 2008 . We received Terms of Reference and Work Plan in early 2009.http://www.reviewboard.ca/registry/project.php?project_id=71
Tyhee would be responsible to return the site to the condition it was in when we receive our permits to proceed or as agreed upon with the MVLWB. If we do not disturb the old tailings site, we would not be responsible for it.
In the future, you can cc- all emails to info@tyhee.com. They will be logged and confirmed.
