VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Dec. 18, 2009) - Zinccorp Resources Inc (TSX VENTURE:ZN)(the 'Company') is pleased to announce it has completed a second 2009 work program at the Michelle Project in north-central Yukon Territory. 31 rock samples were collected by a two-man prospecting team led by professional geologist, William Mann, and have identified significant new mineralization.
"2009 Work at Michelle demonstrates the benefits of inexpensive prospecting and geological surveys in under-explored regions. The discovery of new, high-grade mineralized zones shows that we have not yet found the extent of favourable ground here," comments Company President, Richard Hughes. "We are currently planning our 2010 program for the Michelle as well as starting early stage exploration on a number of recently acquired properties in the West Timmins gold district."
Previous initial exploration at the Michelle Property has revealed zinc, lead, silver and gallium mineralization in dominantly carbonate and oxide form (with minor lead sulphide) over an area measuring roughly 12 kilometres by 6 kilometres. Mineralization is hosted by upper Cambrian to lower Devonian carbonate rocks of the Bouvette formation. Fourteen zones were discovered by the end of the 2008 work, with further prospecting expected to generate additional new discoveries. The September program was conducted in the Mayo mining district, while the July, 2009 program was focussed on the Dawson mining district portion of the property.
One of the objectives of the 2009 sampling program was to confirm and expand the Prairie Dog zone, discovered in 2008. This zone is the most south-westerly of the known mineralized zones on the Michelle property. The September program discovered a new lead- zinc zone at the base of a cliff, extending the Prairie Dog Zone about 200 metres to the northwest. This limonite-rich zone contains a galena-rich core, and was found in outcrop. Previous sampling at Prairie Dog returned maximum values of 6 g/t silver, 32.5% zinc and 0.52% lead. 2009 sampling returned up to 178 g/t silver, 16.3% zinc and 59.6% lead.
Prospecting along the ridge to the southeast of the Prairie Dog zone resulted in the discovery about 3km away of a new zone of galena-bearing limonite and goethite boulders and pebbles which returned a best result of 145 g/t silver, 29.2% zinc and 20.4% lead. Numerous boulders of a very dense, white, currently unidentified mineral (likely barite) were also found in this area. Another boulder zone was discovered about 450m further southeast, and returned 62 g/t silver, 1.56% zinc, and 16% lead.
This new zone lies about 1.5km south of the Polar & Us zone, and is the most southerly mineralization yet discovered on the Michelle property, which is now known to be mineralized over an area of roughly 12 kilometres by 7 kilometres.
Zinccorp Resources owns 100% of the Michelle Property.
