Buenaventura is Peru's largest publicly-traded precious metals company and a major holder of mining rights in Peru. The Company is engaged in the mining, processing, development and exploration of gold, silver and other metals via wholly-owned mines, as well as through its participation in joint exploration projects.

Buenaventura currently operates seven mines in Peru (Orcopampa, Uchucchacua, Antapite, Julcani, Recuperada, Shila-Paula and Ishihuinca), has controlling interests in one mining company (El Brocal) and minority interests in other mining companies in Peru.

Buenaventura has minority interests in several other mining companies, including a significant ownership interest in Yanacocha (43.65%), via a partnership with Newmont Mining, one of the most important gold mining companies in the world, and Cerro Verde (18.50%), an important Peruvian copper producer located in the southern Peru.

The Company has been listed on the Lima Stock Exchange (BUE.LM) since 1971, and on The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: BVN) since 1996.

Compañía de Minas Buenaventura S.A.A., is a sociedad anónima abierta (open stock company) incorporated under the laws of Peru, was originally established in 1953 as a sociedad anónima (company) under the laws of Peru, and currently operates under the laws of Peru.

On June 1, 2005, Cerro Verde conducted a capital increase whereby we subscribed 42,925,975 shares for US$154.8 million, increasing our interest in Cerro Verde from 9.17 percent to 18.21 percent. Phelps Dodge Corporation continues to retain a majority interest in Cerro Verde.

As of May 31, 2006, Cerro Verde was 53.56 percent owned by Cyprus Climax Metals Company, a subsidiary of Phelps Dodge Corporation, 21.0 percent owned by SMM Cerro Verde Netherlands B.V. and 18.5 percent owned by Buenaventura.
