March 1, 2008 – MOBILE satellite TV and communications specialist KVH Industries has won a $20.1 million contract from an unnamed in-flight entertainment supplier for the supply of airborne television antennas.
The Rhode Island-based company is to design, develop and build new DirecTV-compatible antennas for use on narrowbody airliners operating in the United States.
KVH plans to use its TracVision technology - currently used on boats and ships, cars, recreational vehicles and trucks – as the basis of a new low-profile, fuselage-mounted design.
This is KVH’s first venture into aviation. The company has sold more than 150,000 mobile satellite antennas for land and maritime applications.
