Message: Re: Five Disruptive Technologies to Watch For CES2009

At some point e.Digital and Sandisk are going to lock horns....IMO, that is when the big sparks fly.

Computing is changing.....I note that Mr Sandisk did not mention the five year initiative to have 1 terabyte on an SD card.

Amazing stuff, with what is happening to the markets in general, you cannot think about that when invested for the future......e.Digital is the future no matter what happens.

"In a $100 computer, the only way you can do that is with a very low-cost simple operating system and networking activity and operating system for your personal data. That is 16 or 32 GB. Flash today can meet the required cost structure for that platform better than any disk drive. Disk drives have been very good at (larger capacities) for a very low cost, and that role we're not looking to replace. Disk drives have also been very successful in enterprise storage, and there the problem is they consume too much power and are too slow. In the enterprise space, we think that the future is a hybrid of disk drives for storing most of the data and flash memory for very fast access of frequently used data. That combination will dramatically improve the productivity of servers, and the server environment is not price-sensitive at all. We can already play in that market. Eventually, if you look at the world 10 years from now, we're looking at 3 billion consumers. Maybe a billion of those are well off and want to have the latest gadgets, but 2 billion need something that is very rugged, very inexpensive and connected to educational systems."

The only way you can do that is with a portable structure like e.Digitals

"We were never wedded to just our ideas. Other people's ideas were very much welcomed, and we believed in teamwork and when necessary, admitting our mistakes. We never ignore competition. We never ignore our customers. We try to stay very responsive to market changes."

They know who we are, and they know we're coming.
