Fish Richardson is also among the group of law firms defending Samsung. Curious how the game is played. I think the difference between Samsung and Avid is the degree of damages / licensing fee's Dwane Morris is seeking on behalf of eDigital. I can only conjecture what the settlement amount might be. Consider that there are 10 firms representing Samsung. If there is only one lawyer dedicated / firm the billable defense has to be somewhere between $5000 and $7500/ hr That should be an indication of whats at stake. Conversely there was probably much less at stake with Avids settlement. Two - three million dollars, perhaps more but, regardless much less at stake. I'm not sure how this works but it seems to me that if this thing goes full cycle thru the courts. the outcome, would be filed on pacer and the terms would become public knowledge.

Considering that Fish Richardson is the top litigation firm as Silversurfer has posted, I think it is significant that they opted to settle Avids litigation but have joined forces with 9 other firms to defend Samsung. The measure of how the top litagation firm is judged is by the # of patent cases filed. In the case of Samsung it is Duane Morris that has done the filing. I can just imagine how significant this proceeding is to the Duane Morris team. They have something at stake and they have already succeeded in litigating eDigitals IP against the same firm defending Avid. Makes the whole thing extra interesting doesn't it?
